Parker girls win Big Eight cross country challenge
VERONA Brooke King led Janesville Parker High School girls cross country team to first place in a Big Eight Conference five-team challenge Tuesday at Verona.
The Vikings beat the host Wildcats, 35-43, for the top spot.
King finished the tough 4,000-meter Verona course with a winning time of 16 minutes, 37 seconds.
Meanwhile, the Parker boys took fourth place with 91 points. Verona won with 36.
“It was a breakout race for Brooke,” Parker girls coach Joe LaChance said of King. “It was a team success because we ran close together for the first time this season.’’
Parker’s Ashleigh King followed her twin sister, Brooke, with a fourth-place finish in 16:48. Catie O’Leary was eighth in 17:07, and Nicki Bakke was 10th in 17:14 for Parker.
The Vikings will compete in the 71st Midwest Invitational on Saturday morning at Blackhawk Golf Course in Janesville
