— Brooke King led Janesville Parker High School girls cross country team to first place in a Big Eight Conference five-team challenge Tuesday at Verona.

The Vikings beat the host Wildcats, 35-43, for the top spot.

King finished the tough 4,000-meter Verona course with a winning time of 16 minutes, 37 seconds.

Meanwhile, the Parker boys took fourth place with 91 points. Verona won with 36.

“It was a breakout race for Brooke,” Parker girls coach Joe LaChance said of King. “It was a team success because we ran close together for the first time this season.’’
