Sheridan: presidential candidates' car choices matter
A local lawmaker says it is important for voters to know whether the presidential candidates buy American-made vehicles.
Representative Mike Sheridan of Janesville, former president of UAW Local 95, says John McCain wasn't being completely honest when he's said he has bought American all his life since his fleet of 13 vehicles includes several foreign cars. Barack Obama owns one car: a Ford hybrid.

A nice little dig from Mike "double-dipper" Sheridan. The McCain "fleet", with the exception of a 2004 Cadillac CTS (made in Lansing) and an old Jeep, belong to his wife Cindy, or one of her companies.

The Obamas supposedly own only one vehicle, a 2008 Ford Escape hybrid. I wonder what they were driving before that and if they sold off one or more politcally incorrect vehicles in the last couple of years? How about some followup research, Gazette?

Michelle Obama was using a "company" (campaign) van when it had an accident with a motorcycle last October.

I wonder if the Democrats could possibly be worried about losing in Michigan? Could enough laid off auto workers realize that being in bed with the Democratic Party isn't going to save their unions? Will they realize that with the Democratic party can't pressure foreign factories into providing Americans with high-paying jobs or lavish pensions?

When an American auto maker can produce the same quality as some of the imports, perhaps I'd be willing to give a thin shred of consideration to what the presidential candidates drive. Until then, let them drive whatever they want! Are we really going to start making our decision for who should run our country based on the cars they drive? How about their stand on the REAL issues?

Well, Mike, do you buy American when it comes to other things? Do you go to local shops or shops like Starbucks that provides its workers with real health-care, or do you go to WalMart? Notice how many GM workers that might excoriate me for having a foreign car that is fuel efficient shop regularly at WalMart, a place who provides poor jobs with bad wages and no healthcare and a place that buys a lot of Chinese products made in sub-standard factories.
