WCLO's Stan Stricker reports on development after BID's failure

RSS

A Business Improvement District for Janesville may be dead, but hopes for downtown development are not.

Opposition to the proposed Business Improvement District gathered enough support to kill the plan. Forward Janesville President John Beckord remains optimistic about downtown development. In fact, he says many who've voiced opposition to the BID, could be strong allies for future development.

Beckord says it's not time to give up on downtown development.

Downtown can indeed be great again! Getting those holding best card hands to 'raise' the stakes. To encourage more help, in developing its present and future... not to OWN all of it. Living there, the past 50 years... I got a glimpse of downtowns recent life. I saw death, life and re-birth... in many areas there. Do not dull the sheen, of this diamond. Instead, do what you can... to make it 'shine' again.

Why does everything have to be done by the government? Why can't the business people get together, perhaps with some inexpensive consultation from someone from UWW (there's an expert in urban development there), and come up with their own plans?
