Rock Aqua Jays are survivors
JANESVILLE The worst possible scenario was played out in late 2007 and this summer as flooding on the Rock River hit Janesville's Rock Aqua Jays where it hurts, in the pocket book.
President of the show ski organization, Joel Shapiro, says losses from local sponsorships and concessions, and the economic loss to the community, because the national ski tournament having to move out of Janesville, was well over $2 Million.
Shapiro says they're hanging on, and have drastically cut back on spending. Much of the club's facilities in Janesville were either damaged, or destroyed because of the flooding. They'll be looking at water-proofing future structures.
Despite all of the problems, the team still placed second in the national ski show tournament, held at a different location in August.
