— Early this year, Beloit city officials said the old ACE Hardware store on Pleasant Street would be torn down right after Riverfest. It's still standing, and Beloit City Manager Larry Arft says there have been a couple snags in the plans.

One of them is some final tweaking to the construction plans. The other is getting the proper permits from the DNR. Arft says demolition plans have been delayed about three to four months.

While the plans have been delayed, Arft says the good news is the extra time won't cost the city anything. The plan calls for a diagonal walkway to stretch from the parking lot at the corner of Pleasant Street and the Portland Avenue bridge to the Rotary River Center. There will be more green space, and the parking lot will be expanded as well.
