The latest National Agricultural Statistics Service report doesn't bode well for Rock county farmers.
The NASS reports the state is "short" or "very short" on moisture. UW-Extension Crops and Soils agent Jim Stute says the situation isn't much different in rock county. The extended dry spell isn't the only problem, early season flooding also hurt. Stute says it leached the soil of nitrogen and also kept corn roots from growing deep into the soil. So right now, the situation is dry and distressed crops, leaving yields suspect.
Stute says all farmers can do is watch and wait.
