— A Walworth County man and his family will be honored at Monday’s Packers game.

Sgt. Raymond Hubbard, U.S. Army, retired, and his family will be recognized by the Packers and Festival Foods at Monday’s game against the Minnesota Vikings as part of “Operation Fan Mail.”

Hubbard, a Wisconsin National Guard soldier, was seriously wounded in Iraq on July 4, 2006. Hubbard was on patrol north of Baghdad when the incident happened. He lost his leg as a result of the attack.

Retired from the Army and a member of American Legion Post 95, he now lives with his wife, Sarah, and sons, Brady and Riley, in Allens Grove in Walworth County.

Allens Grove is between Darien and Clinton on County X.

In 2007, Hubbard was named Wisconsin American Legion Soldier of the Year.

His mother, Bonnie Wilson, and his sons will join Hubbard at the game.

Operation Fan Mail, which started in 2007, recognizes military families at each home game. Families are saluted on the field as part of pregame activities.

The Packers and Festival Foods are asking interested families, or friends of eligible families, to submit an essays of 500 words or less, on why a particular family should be saluted.

Essays can be sent to: Operation Fan Mail, P.O. Box 10628, Green Bay, WI, 54307-0628. Essays also can be submitted online at www.packers.com.

Families intended for recognition are those that have a member serving on active duty. In addition to being recognized on field prior to the game, selected families will receive four tickets to the game and a $100 gift certificate to Festival Foods.

Yeah, they needed to fill the time slotted to retire Favre's jersey. Glad they made the decision to honor a war hero though.
