Big Foot holds off Delavan-Darien; Brodhead/Juda, Parkview, Turner, Palmyra-Eagle win
Walworth Big Foot High School’s football team dug in down the stretch to hold off visiting Delavan-Darien, 28-21, in a nonconference thriller Friday night.
The Chiefs (2-0), No. 4 in the AP middle-sized school state ratings, built a 28-7 lead in the third period and turned back Delavan-Darien’s fourth-quarter comeback bid with key defensive plays and critical first downs on offense.
Steve Dowden’s 20-yard touchdown pass to Nathan Nagel helped put Big Foot up for good, 14-7, late in the second quarter. Matt Fogerty’s 32-yard touchdown run helped push the lead to 28-7 with 8:20 left in the third quarter.
Delavan-Darien followed with a long kickoff return to Big Foot’s 9-yard line. Michael Gonzalez scored three plays later on a 3-yard run as the Comets pulled within 28-14 with 6:21 left in the third period.
The Comets then had a third-and-goal at the 3 late in the third quarter, but Big Foot’s Mike Walker stopped the threat with an interception at the 1. However, Zach Neiger’s 5-yard touchdown run with 5:48 left in the game helped pull Delavan-Darien within 28-21.
Big Foot picked up four first downs on its ensuing offensive series before punting the Comets down to their 3-yard line with 1:50 remaining. Brad McDonnell then sealed the Chiefs’ victory with an interception in the final minute.
Walker rushed 17 times for 162 yards to lead Big Foot’s 335-yard ground game. T.J. Schaid had 139 yardws on 18 carries for the Chiefs, with Gonzalez threw for 209 yards to lead Delavan-Darien’s offense.

Brodhead/Juda 28, Cuba City 20—Ethan Douglas scored ona six-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter to give the Cardinals (1-1) the nonconference victory.
Quarterback Beau Benner had 84-yard touchdown run in the third quarter to give Brodhead/Juda a 20-12 lead, but Cuba City (0-2) answered to tie it 20-20 in the fourth quarter.
Benner gained 118 yards on six carries. Cuba City’s Glen Brandt gained 105 yards on 16 attempts, scoring two touchdowns.

Parkview 21, Belleville/Albany 20 (OT)—Orfordville Parkview broke up a two-point conversion pass in overtime to edge visiting Belleville/Albany.
Belleville/Albany took a 14-0 halftime lead, but the Vikings tied the game on Alex Cox’s 1-yard run in the third quarter, and Nick Melton’s 33-yard run with just 1:50 left in the fourth quarter.
Mark Gorelik kicked both extra points.
On the first play of overtime, Levi Stuvengen hit Melton with a 25-yard scoring pass, and Gorelik kicked the extra point.
Belleville/Albany responded with an 11-yard scoring pass, but the ensuing two-point pass was knocked away.
Melton finished with 53 yards on six carries and Caleb Fakes added 62 yards rushing for the Vikings (2-0).

Palmyra-Eagle 33, Milw. Marshall 24—Leo Rausch rushed for two touchdowns and caught a scoring pass from Chris McMillan to lead Palmyra-Eagle past visiting Milwaukee Marshall.
Rausch finished with 134 yards rushing in 18 attempts, including touchdowns covering 13 and 8 yards. He also caught three passes for 59 yards, including a 45-yard TD from McMillan.
Taylor Dane added 111 yards rushing on 15 carries.

Turner 33, New Glarus/Monticello 13—Nolan Byrom returned a punt 67 yards for one score and ran 54 yards for another as Beloit Turner evened its season record at 1-1 with a nonconference win at New Glarus.
Byrom rushed 20 times for 134 yards for the Trojans, who scored in every quarter. Quarterback Jordan Conway contributed a 40-yard scoring pass to Kasey Hallmark and a 35-yarder to Stephen Porter.

All three Iowa-Grant touchdowns came on runs. Marcus Boothe finished with 196 yards rushing on 25 attempts, including a 25-yard touchdown in the fourth quarter.
Nick Oldenburg led the Cougars (0-2) with 78 yards on 16 carries.
