Governor Jim Doyle makes remarks at Michael Fitzpatrick's investiture Thursday.

Governor Jim Doyle has high praise for Rock County's newest circuit court judge. Doyle says when Michael Fitzpatrick interviewed for the Branch 3 appointment, he'd built up his legal practice, was highly regarded in the bar, and was at a point in his career where he could take the cases he wanted and train the younger lawyers to take the others. Doyle asked Fitzpatrick why he'd want to move to the bench. Fitzpatrick told Doyle during the interview about public service and dispensing justice.

Fitzpatrick says as he works in Courtroom A, some of the cases seem to be similar to others, but those cases aren't similar to those people who are in the courtroom. He says that is the most important thing going on in their life right then, and it's important to remember it's not routine for them.

Fitzpatrick was sworn in Thursday afternoon. He began his duties this week.
