Parker rolls in Big Eight volleyball; Craig falls

Janesville Parker High School girls volleyball team downed Beloit Memorial, 3-1, to get its Big Eight Conference season off to a good start Tuesday.

“We did a lot of things well,” Parker coach Dave Lehmann said of the visiting Vikings’ 25-18, 25-13, 23-25, 25-18 triumph. “We corrected some things we did not do well Saturday (in the Wisconsin Rapids Invitational).”

Cassie Niles posted 33 kills and Shelby Demos added 16 kills to lead the Vikings.

Parker plays at Madison East at 6:30 p.m. next Tuesday.

Sun Prairie 3, Craig 0—Defending champion Sun Prairie swept past Janesville Craig in a Big Eight Conference opener.

The visiting Cardinals posted 25-14, 25-14, 25-17 victories.

“They played great defense, as usual,” Craig coach Blake Budrow said.

Jessica Simps, a first-team all-conference selection last season, led the Cardinals with 13 kills. Kelsey Kennedy had 13 assists.

“Kelsey Kennedy set well and Jilynn Mortensen played well in the back row,” Budrow said. “We need with a couple of consistent hitters.’’

Craig hosts Beloit Memorial at 6:30 p.m. next Tuesday.
