Those involved with Janesville's Tallman House can expect less money from the City of Janesville in the 2009 budget.

Acting City Manager Jay Winzenz says the city cannot turn the site over to the Rock County Historical Society as a way of cutting costs because the Tallman Trust does not allow the site to be directly deeded to another group. During a budget study session Wednesday, the council debated whether to cut funding in half or altogether, and ended up compromising by reducing the subsidy by just over $22,000. That means the Tallman House should receive $31,000 in a subsidy and $4,400 for grounds maintenance.

Several council members noted the Tallman House had been warned last year that funding would be cut.
