New superintendent could seek high pay
Superintendent Tom Evert’s annual salary is $158,199, which is just below the average for the superintendents of the 15 largest school districts in Wisconsin.
The average is $159,415.
“We’re right at the mid, but we’re probably going to have to bump that up, probably, because we haven’t been through a couple of cycles” of superintendent hirings, said DuWayne Severson, school board president.
Evert has been superintendent for more than 13 years.
Eight of the superintendents on the list of 15 are new in their positions this year, according to information supplied by the human resources department of the Janesville schools.
Of those eight, four make more than Evert. The new superintendent in Eau Claire, a district very close in size to Janesville, makes $174,000.
Superintendents in four other districts closest in size to Janesville earn less than Evert, ranging from $144,280 in Sheboygan to $157,600 in Oshkosh.
A potential salary/benefits package is scheduled to be worked out next month, according to a schedule the school board considered Thursday.
