— Parkview School District taxpayers will see a 6-percent drop in the tax rate this year under the budget approved by the school board this week.

The district tried to "hold the line on spending" and reduced a secretarial position through retirement, business manager Dennis Birr said.

Other encouraging news for the district was an increase in enrollment after years of decline, he said.

"It was a pleasant surprise," he said.

This year's count showed four more students than last year for a total of 1,096 students. That number is by the state to determine state aid to the district as well as help set the revenue limit for Parkview.
