McBride, Lodi whip Lakeside in Capitol showdown
Keith McBride stole the show in the battle for the Capitol North football championship.
McBride, a 5-11, 195-pound senior, rushed for a spectuclar 337 yards and scored four touchdowns Thursday night as Lodi High School captured the undisputed title by whipping defending champion Lakeside Lutheran, 40-14.
Lodi notched its eighth straight win after losing a season opener to Onalaska and finished 5-0 in the Capitol North. Lakeside finished 3-2 and 5-4, while earning its ninth straight playoff berth since joining the WIAA in 2000.
McBride average 18.7 yards in 18 carries. He scored the first three touchdowns on 27-, 70-, and 69-yard runs as the host Blue Devils rolled to a 33-0 halftime lead, which they extended to 40-0 in the third quarter.
Nick Cooper scored on a 5-yard pass from Nate Bauer with six minutes remaining for Lakeside’s first touchdown and finished with 21 rushing attempts for 102 yards.
