Loss dampens Parker's playoff hopes
Janesville Parker High School’s roller-coaster football season took another dip Friday night.
The Vikings, seeking their 13th straight playoff berth, failed to qualify at Madison Memorial. The Spartans raced out to a 21-0 lead and held on for the 35-21 Big Eight Conference victory.
With the loss, Parker fells to 4-4 heading into the season finale against first-place Middleton. The Vikings must win that game to reach the postseason.
The Spartans also remain in the hunt for a playoff spot after improving to 4-4 by dismantling the Vikings.
Quarterback Mike Moss directed Memorial’s balanced attack by completing 12 of 16 passes for 167 yards and three touchdowns. The Spartans added 163 yards on the ground, as Ace Davis did most of the damage with 138 yards on 31 carries and two touchdowns.
Defensively, the Spartans shut down the Parker running game, allowing just 16 yards on 31 carries.
“You win high school games on the line of scrimmage, and we got beat on both sides of the line of scrimmage,” Parker coach Joe Dye said. “It was disappointing because we didn’t play in the manner that we would have liked to have played, but we’ve got to go back to work and try and get one next Wednesday.”
“I think our offensive line was the key tonight,” Memorial coach Ric Saenz said. “We’ve been a little suspect in the run game, but I thought tonight our run blocking was outstanding. But, Mike also made some plays he had to make.”
Parker finally got the spark it needed as quarterback Tyler Teubert hit Joe Allen with a 40-yard touchdown strike with 16 seconds left in the first half.
The Vikings cut the Memorial lead to a touchdown twice in the second half, but Memorial answered back both times with scores. The last one came with 1:48 left as Davis broke free for a 32-yard blast for the 35-21 margin
“We did not play good football on either side of the ball,” Dye said. “It doesn’t matter who we play, we expect to run the football.
“We didn’t run the football well. And when that happens. you face an uphill road.”

On the brighter side, Parker's chances of making the play-offs, greatly exceed the Badger's chances of making a bowl game.

Anybody read the sunday paper about the non coverage of the parker/lafollete football game? What a puke this scott angus is, how could you say parker was not even in a playoff race so it was not covered, i cant even beleive that made it to print, and this guy calls himself an editor. Have you checked the title of your paper lately, i dont think it says brodhead gazette or bigfoot gazette. You should be ashamed of yourself for putting your name on the article and representing the community like that.Rediculous!
