Small businesses may play an important part in Janesville's future economic development, following the closing of the General Motors plant.

Forward Janesville President John Beckord tells WCLO's Stan Milam show the community has a lot of potential. He says Janesville has a lot of small businesses capable of growing from five or ten employees, to 25 or 100. Beckord has seen this growth before in companies not necessarily inventing anything new, but bringing products to market in new or better ways.

Beckord says Forward Janesville is working with the UW-Whitewater Small Business Development Center to help nurture local small business growth.
