The Janesville School District is looking for a new superintendent.

School Board President DuWayne Severson made the announcement Friday. Severson says following discussions over the last couple of months, Dr. Tom Evert has decided to retire at the end of June. Severson says Evert did a fine job as superintendent. He says successful efforts include four-year-old kindergarten, several new charter schools, and a recent referendum. Severson says the search for a new superintendent will include a wide range of community input. As for Evert, he thinks this is a good time to step down, because the school board will soon begin developing a long range plan, and a new superintendent could help lead the process. Evert says the high points of his career have been the people and the students.

Evert's education career spans 38-years, 23 with the Janesville district, 14 as superintendent.
