— Walworth Big Foot/Williams Bay has continued its magnificent roll in girls tennis, advancing to the WIAA Division 2 state team tournament for the fourth straight year.

The Chiefs finished with 44 points Wednesday to outdistance second-place McFarland’s 26 for the Whitewater Sectional championship.

Caroline Starck, Big Foot/Williams Bay’s two-time defending Division 2 singles champ, defeated Jefferson’s Beth Ganser, 6-0, 6-0, to win the Flight 1 sectional title and gain her fourth straight berth in the individual state meet.

Starck, a Williams Bay High School senior, improved to 32-0 for the season. She extended her two-year record to 64-1 and her high school career mark to 129-6.

Ganser (24-3), the state runner-up to Starck last year, also earned a fourth straight state berth.

Big Foot/Williams Bay’s Julie Kolnik (26-3) qualified for the individual state meet with a 7-5, 4-6, 6-4 victory over Jenny Ujke of McFarland for the Flight 2 sectional title.

East Troy’s Anna Rhode and Paige Klumb (26-2) advanced as Flight 1 doubles champions by beating Watertown Luther Prep’s Karina Luthra and Amber Krause, 3-6, 6-1, 6-4.

Ellen Blum and Jen Yih aided Big Foot/Williams Bay’s run to the sectional team championship by winning Flight 3 and 4 singles titles, respectively.

The sectional’s top four in Flight 1 singles and doubles, along with the Flight 2 champions, earned individual state berths.

The individual state tournament is next Thursday through Saturday at the Nielsen Tennis Stadium in Madison. The team tournament is Oct. 24-25, also at Nielsen.
