Columbus tops Parker soccer team
JANESVILLE Janesville Parker held its own, but the Vikings couldn’t get past visiting Columbus in a nonconference soccer game.
Parker (4-11-2) played well in a 2-0 loss to the Cardinals (13-4-2).
“Columbus is a solid team,” Parker coach Andy Holmes said. “They beat a couple of Big Eight teams already, including Madison East.”
The game was scoreless in the first half. Jeff Schultz put Columbus ahead 12 minutes into the second half.
“It was a shot from midfield,” Holmes said. “It was unbelieveable. I can’t tell you how unbelieveable that shot was.”
The final goal came with two minutes to go in the game.
“We kept their big goal scorer Charlie Calvo scoreless until the final two minutes when we moved everyone up to try to get the equalizer,” Holmes said. “We really stuck to our game plan. We had some opportunities.”
The Vikings play Lake Mills in a nonconference game at home Tuesday.
