Garage fire causes $50,000 damage
ROCK TOWNSHIP Traffic was blocked late Wednesday night on Highway 51 near the Southern Wisconsin Regional Airport as firefighters responded to a fire in a three-car garage.
Flames were above the ridgeline of the roof when Janesville Fire Department units arrived around 11 p.m. to 4327 S. Highway 51, according to a department report. Resident Gerald Thompson, who reported the fire, was trying to move a car, two pickup trucks and a camper when firefighters arrived, according to the report.
Damage to the garage, its contents and nearby vehicles is estimated at $50,000, according to the report. The nearby home was not damaged.
Turtle and Footville fire departments assisted. The scene was cleared at 1:35 this morning.
