Allyssa Ferrell hopes the third time is a charm.

The Edgerton High junior qualified for the girls WIAA state golf tournament for the third straight year by winning the Division 2 sectional at Trapper’s Turn in Wisconsin Dells on Tuesday.

Ferrell, who tied for third last year at state and was third the year before, both times in Division 1, shot a 79 to win the sectional title by one-shot over Alyssa Elliott of Madison Edgewood. The Crusaders, the seven-time defending Division 2 state champions, easily won the team title with a 336 total.

After a 41 on the front nine, Ferrell bounced back with a 2-over 38 on the back.

“We played the last 10 holes or so in the rain, but I think that actually helped me,” Ferrell said. “I concentrated a little bit more once it started raining because I had to make a few adjustments.

“I thought a round in the 70s would be good enough to get me through, and it was. Now, I can get ready for state.”

n Whitewater’s Meinel qualifies—Whitewater’s Kristi Meinel won a one-hole playoff over Wrightstown’s Caroline Minkebige in the Little Chute Sectional to become an individual qualifier for the Division 2 state meet next Monday and Tuesday at University Ridge.

Meinel, a senior, carded a 40-45—85 at Mid-Vallee Golf Course in De Pere to tie Minkebige who carded 43-42—85.
