WCLO's Steve Benton reports on an update of a lawsuit filed by a tribe involved in the Beloit casino project

RSS

— Last December, the St. Croix Chippewa band filed suit in federal court to stop the Interior Department from using a new rule that would effectively stop an eight year effort to build a casino in Beloit.

Tribal spokesman, Joe Hunt, says Judge Richard Leon has ruled in favor of the government and dismissed the suit. Hunt says they appealed immediately. He says the tribes feel the judge didn't take into consideration the tribes contention that the government shouldn't be able to change a rule eight years after their effort began.

The Beloit casino project officially got off the ground following a referendum victory in Beloit in November, 2000.
