Youth baseball and softball could become more prominent in Janesville.

Monday the city's Plan Commission approved the expansion site plan that includes four new baseball fields and four new softball fields on about 37 acres near Wuthering Hills Drive. Some commissioners voiced concern that they did not receive updated site plans, but approved the project due to time constraints. The Janesville Youth Baseball and Softball Association has committed $2.5 million for the project. Representative Duffy Dillon told the Plan Commission that while they don't have hard pledges in hand, they believe they have more than a half-million dollars firmly committed.

The city's contribution would be between $1.3 million and $1.4 million for infrastructure. The Plan Commission does not review financial aspects of the project. The City Council will take on that role Monday.

Thanks Janesville for the believing in JYBSA.
This is a great time build the diamonds. We need revenue and this will bring it. The Dawson diamond were built for adults not kids.
This means we can host 100 team tournaments such as boys and girls state and numerous others. Build it they will come.

Some projects generate revenue and help the local economy, as well as society generally. JPAC, the Armory, and the Rotary Gardens bring people into Janesville, at a time when we're losing jobs. We should fund them. As for recreation programs, what happened to the old days when kids and parents could organize their own events?

lovetoscrap, No, you hit it right on the head. It seems as if clubs, organisations and groups want us the taxpayer to fund unrealistic goals in thses times of economic uncertainty. Take for example the performing arts center. The upper floors of the Senior Center could been renovated to serve just such a purpose. Besides, The city has its own problem of not being able to fund its care and maintenance of exsisting parks such as the Pat Dawson Field baseball complex. I too would like to see the city council take a wait and see approach during these hard times. We can't afford more big tax increases now. Even at that, The city should give preference to it's own facilities before funding private groups etc...

LOL...more tax dollars being spend with less money coming in. Why are we choosing now to expand sooooo much? Why not sit a little while and see how many people relocate and when the dust settles, then decide on which community projects to pursue? Maybe I am looking at it the wrong way.
