Verona High School’s football (5-1) got 151 yards passing and two touchdown throws from Trevor Burmeister to rally past West (4-2), 24-21, Friday night in a battle of Big Eight Conference co-leaders.

The victory kept the Wildcats tied with Middleton for first place.

West’s Leighton Settle rushed for 193 yards on 28 carries and scored three touchdowns. Cameron Bates led Verona with 94 yards on 13 carries.

n Middleton 49, La Follette 27—Brooks Braga rushed for 291 yards, including scoring runs of 2, 39, 49, 36 and 61 yards, to lead the Cardinals (5-1) past host Madison La Follette.

The win kept Middleton a tie with Verona for the Big Eight lead.

D.J. Fuller had 170 yards on 20 carries in his first appearance for La Follette (0-6), which began the season with 16 suspended players.

n Sun Prairie 44, East 20—The Cardinals (4-2) romped over the Madison East (1-5) with the help of a 28-7 halftime lead.

The Cardinals’ Kyle Huemmer gained 133 yards on 30 carries, including touchdown runs of one and seven yards. Sun Prairie quarterback Phil Klaas passed for 198 yards and two touchdowns.
