Evansville High’s unbeaten football team is set for one of its biggest games of the season.


The visiting Blue Devils rolled past Whitewater, 35-0, Friday night to set up a Rock Valley North showdown with McFarland.


Evansville, No. 5 in The Associated Press medium-sized school ratings, hosts the eighth-ranked Spartans next Friday in a battle of teams that are 4-0 in the confernce and 6-0 overall.


The Blue Devils protected their perfect record by quickly taking advantage of Whitewater mistakes. It started with a fumble recovery at the Whippets’ 22-yard line on the first play from scrimmage.


It took Evansville only five plays to score. Cody Thompson got the touchdown on an 11-yard pass from Andrew Keister with 9:28 left in the first quarter.


On the ensuing series, Evansville recovered Whitewater’s bobbled punt at the Whippets’ 10-yard line. Derek Cahsore scored two plays later on a 4-yard run, and the Blue Devils went up 14-0 with 8:11 left in the first quarter to set the tone for the night.


Josh Halvenslaben led Evansville’s ground game with 11 carries for 111 yards, including 60- and 24-yard touchdown runs.


Whitewater’s Tony Bilderback caught nine passes for 74 yards, but the Whippets were held to a minus-33 yards rushing on 10 attempts as they fell to 0-4 in the conference and 1-5 overall.

Big Foot 41, Turner 6—Walworth Big Foot, No. 4 in The Associated Press state ratings for medium-sized schools, powered its way into a Rock Valley South showdown by dominating Beloit Turner (2-4, 1-3).


The Chiefs will take a 4-0 conference record and 6-0 season mark to Brodhead next Friday to battle the sixth-ranked Cardinals (6-0, 4-0) for the division lead.


Mike Crusan had a breakout night in scoring three touchdowns to lead Big Foot’s charge past Turner. He finished with 12 rushing attempts for 76 yards, while teammate T.J. Schaid matched that total with only five carries. Michael Walker added 75 to the Chiefs’ 304-yard ground total with 12 carries.


Nolan Byrom scored Turner’s touchdown on a 78-yard kickoff return after Big Foot had built a 34-0 lead.

Leo Raush led Palmyra-Eagle with a 13-yard scoring run and a 77-yard TD reception from Kevin Watts.

Brodhead/Juda 33, Clintion 20—The Cardinals poured it on in the first half, rolling to a 25-0 lead, but the Cougars made a game of it in the second half.


Alex Marchillo returned a second-half kickoff 89 yards for a touchdown to revive the Cougars. Freshman quarterback Aaron Roth threw touchdown passes for 21 and 18 yards to Mike Mulligan and Marchillo, respectively to close the gap for Clinton.


Brodhead/Juda’s Ethan Douglas gained 193 yards on 18 carries, including TD runs of 58 and 16 yards. Vinny Mazzarisi gained 139 yards on 20 carries and scored a touchdown for the Cards.
