— A second-half goal made the difference as Madison East nipped Janesville Craig High School’s boys soccer team, 1-0, Friday in a Big Eight game.

The Purgolders’ Ribiera Matheus scored the only goal six minutes into the second half.

“We defended really well,” Craig coach Dave Adler said. “But we made a crucial mistake on the winning goal.”

Despite the slip, Adler said the Cougars did a good job against the conference’s second-place team.

“We played well enough for a tie,” Adler said. “East is a very good team, and Matheus is probably one of the top midfielders around.’’

Craig (3-9-2, 3-3-1) hosts Madison West at 7 p.m. Tuesday.
