JCK, to answer your question as to why he locked the door..maybe he always locks the door, or maybe he wanted privacy! Again, he never stopped her from leaving, never even touched her. So locking the door to prevent her from leaving is nonsensical. And no this doesn't justify anything he did, read my earlier post.

I don't know what this guy's problem is but I suspect he'll be evaluated and if there is some medical condition that can explain his behavior it will be diagnosised. Based on his statement to police he recognized the fact his behavior was inappropriate and by locking the door he did attempt to stop her from leaving. Why would he do that? He just didn't press the issue when she refused. Doing nothing would have been showing her where the litter and food was kept and then thanking her for looking after his cats while he was away.

Now, according to his own statements, he "desire(d) her". So we know his intentions were bad. I would have to agree that this man must have some mental deficiency, it could also be a cultural thing. But in light of what he actually did, I personally think that "up to $110,000 in fines and up to 31 years in prison" is excessive.

Good point janesvillean, most pedophiles are very manipulative, gaining the trust of their victims. They are also really good liars. This guy was blatant and is telling the police exactly what his intentions were. I'm guessing he's got a very low IQ or some medical condition like you mentioned.
