More parking may be available in downtown Janesville to meet the needs at the Senior Center.

The two most popular options for adding parking near the Janesville Senior Center are miles apart in price. Acting City Manager Jay Winzenz says seniors were given a chance to vote on several options during an informational meeting at the center Thursday. Winzenz says close to 100 seniors had a chance to vote on their favorite plan to fill a perceived need for 20-more parking spaces. The top two choices included acquiring an adjacent lot, and moving 17 nearby leased parking slots. The prices are very different. Acquiring the old Rock County Jail property and creating a parking lot could cost $440,000. Moving the 17 leased parking stalls a mere $1500.

City staff will now prepare a report for the council, which will ultimately decide the issue.
