Town of Beloit budget

Highlights:

-- The town does not have any definite construction plans at this time but has received conceptual drawings for a new fire station at 2245Afton Road. Ehlers & Associates consultants told the board the station would have an average $45.25 impact on the tax bill for a $100,000 home, Administrator Bob Museus said. The board next week will continue talking about whether the time is right for a new fire station in the township.

-- The board created a $41,500 building fund for future projects.

-- The board designated $7,500 to study the feasibility of a municipal water main for homes on the east side of the Rock River between Azalea Drive and Glenwood Park. The money will not be used for construction, Museus said. Some houses in the neighborhood still do not have safe drinking water after the 2008 floods.

-- The town budgeted $175,000 for road improvement projects in 2009. That's an increase over last year.

-- The town plans to buy a new fire truck, a new snowplow and a new police cruiser in 2009.

The town did not set its tax rate Monday because it is awaiting information from the state, Museus said. But taxpayers can expect a tax rate “pretty close” to last year's tax rate of $4.53 per $1,000 of assessed valuation.
