— A seventh-place finish in the 100 high hurdles by Janesville Parker junior Shelby Demos highlighted action Saturday for Janesville athletes in the WIAA Division 1 state track and field meet.

Demos, the state champion in the high jump, narrowly missed the podium with a time of 15.72 in the finals.

Watertown’s Lindsay Schwartz won the race in 14.70, while Waterford’s Shelby Schaal earned the final spot on the podium by finishing sixth with a time of 15.52.

Janesville Craig’s 3,200 relay team of Ryan Ahrens, Alex Crandall, Matt McDonald and Joe Kennedy hoped to run somewhere around 8:08 or less in the finals, but settled for 20th place after finishing in 8:18.93.

Despite the disappointing time, all four members of the team are back next year. Ahrens, McDonald and Kennedy are juniors, while Crandall is a sophomore.

Two other Janesville athletes competed in the triple jump. Parker’s Nick Cahill was 23rd with a jump of 40-7.75, while Craig’s JoJo Pregont was 24th at 39 feet. Both are juniors.
