— A 15-month-old girl died Thursday morning after she was backed over by a minivan about 8 miles west of Beloit.

Dwayne E. Fellenz, 32, Beloit, was backing a Ford Windstar out of the driveway at 9541 W. County H when the van struck his niece, Charly M. Brown, according to a news release from the Rock County Sheriff’s Office.

The sheriff’s office, Orfordville EMS and Beloit paramedics responded to the scene at 9:42 a.m.

The girl was flown by helicopter to Rockford Memorial Hospital, where she was pronounced dead at 10:44 a.m., the release said.

Investigators think Charly might have followed Fellenz out of the house as he left to take one of her three older brothers to school, said Lt. Gary Groelle with the sheriff’s office.

The sheriff’s office does not suspect alcohol, speed or reckless driving to be factors in the accident, the news release said.
