Van Buren students in brief lock down
JANESVILLE Van Buren Elementary School was locked down Thursday at the request of the Janesville Police.
“The school was placed into soft lock down which means that the exterior doors were locked, and students stayed in their classrooms,” said Sheryl Miller, public information specialist for the school district. “The exterior doors to the elementary schools are always kept locked.”
During a hard lock down, students gather in the corner of the classroom and all the lights are turned off. No classes are held.
The police were responding to an incident in the neighborhood, Miller said.
The lockdown started at 9:30 p.m. and lasted about an hour. Classes went on as usual.

Gazette staff, are you sure that the lockdown didn't start at 9:30 a.m. (not p.m. as the article states)? I would assume that there wouldn't be classes in session at 9:30 p.m. on a Thursday evening.
