The top four hitters provided all the run support Nick Meyers needed to pitch Milton High’s baseball team past visiting Oconomowoc on Tuesday afternoon.

Milton scored three times after its first four batters hit in the bottom of the first en route to a 6-2 victory over the Raccoons in the WIAA Division 1 regional semifinals.

The Red Hawks (11-9) play Craig in a regional final Friday afternoon at Riverside Park. The winner faces Janesville Parker or Beloit Memorial in the semifinals of next week’s Parker Sectional.

The first four hitters in the Milton lineup—Chris Nelson, Jake Meyers, Josh Meyers and Riston Furseth—went a combined 8-for-14 to lead a 12-hit attack.

Nelson opened the Milton first inning with a single, and Jake Meyers followed with a double. Josh Meyers doubled home both runners, and Furseth singled in Josh Meyers.

After Oconomowoc scored twice in the second—only one of the runs was earned—Milton scored twice in the third.

An error opened the inning, and Nick Meyers singled. Kyle Ledger singled in one run, and Derek Rucker walked to force in a run later in the inning.

Milton scored its final run when Jake Meyers, Josh Meyers and Furseth all singled.

Nick Meyers did the rest, striking out five.

“When we don’t make errors and give away runs, we can play with most teams because we’re a good enough hitting team to score some runs,” Milton coach Steve Heilman said.
