Edgerton, Evansville, Clinton, Jefferson, East Troy advance to regional finals

Aaron Laskowski continued his exceptional season by pitching a complete-game three-hitter, striking out nine and going 2-for-3 at the plate Tuesday in Edgerton High’s 2-1 regional semifinal baseball victory over visiting Monroe.

Edgerton (17-3) plays hosts Clinton today in a regional final. The winner takes on Madison Edgewood or Evansville in next week’s Evansville Sectional.

Laskowski, the Rock Valley Conference player of the year who also has been selected to play in the state high school all-star games, improved to 9-0 on the year.

Edgerton scored twice in the third inning. Adam Gregory doubled with one out and scored on Derek Carrier’s single. Laskowski drove in Carrier with a single.

Monroe scored an unearned run in the fourth.

Laskowski, Gregory and Matt Buhrow each went 2-for-3 in Edgerton’s nine-hit attack.

Monroe finished 5-13, including a 3-8 record in one-run games.

Evansville 4, Lodi 1—Kevin Diedrich pitched a complete-game four-hitter to lead the host Blue Devils to the Division 2 regional semifinals win.

The second-ranked Blue Devils (18-3), who won the Rock Valley championship, play Madison Edgewood’s top-rated Badger South champions (21-0) at Warner Park today. The winner faces Edgerton or Clinton in the semifinals next week’s Evansville Sectional.

Evansville got all four of its runs in the bottom of the third, thanks to five singles, three stolen bases and two balks. Andrew Keister, Tommy Kremer, Derek Cashore and Jeremy Weaver had RBIs in the inning.

Clinton 2, Turner 1—Grant Oldenburg pitched a two-hitter as Clinton avenged two regular-season losses win a Division 2 regional semifinal win over Beloit Turner (12-7).

Casey Hallmark doubled in the second inning, and Jordan Conway followed with a bunt single for Turner’s only hits, but Oldenburg shut the door on that threat.

Josh Danielson scored when Anthony Crivello was safe on error, giving Clinton a 1-0 lead in the top of the second. Nick Risseeuw’s single drove in Brad Heseback too make it 2-0 in the fifth.

Turner loaded the bases with two walks and a hit batsmen in the sixth, but the only run came when Hallmark hit into a fielder’s choice.

Oldenburg, a senior right-hander, had nine strikeouts and withstood eight walks.

Clinton advanced to a regional title game today at Edgerton. The winner plays Evansville or Madison Edgewood in the Evansville Sectional.

Jefferson 5, Lakeside 0—Mike Huckaby went 2-for-3 with three RBIs and two runs scored to lead Jefferson past visiting Lakeside (12-9) in a Division 2 regional semifinal.

The Eagles (13-8) play at East Troy in a regional championship game today. The winner advances to the Chilton Sectional.

Mike Splittgerber pitched a complete-game five-hitter to earn the victory over Lakeside. He struck out eight and allowed no walks.

East Troy 7, Whitewater 2—After allowing two runs in the third inning, East Troy pitcher Jory Tess blanked the Whippets the rest of the way for a Division 2 regional semifinal win.

The Southern Lakes champions hammered the Whippets for four runs in the bottom of the third to take the lead for good. Andy Kiesow ripped a two-run single, and Mike Windel hit a two-run triple to give East Troy a 4-2 lead.

East Troy hosts Jefferson at 4:30 p.m. today in a regional game. The winner qualifies for the Chilton Sectional.

St. Joseph 3, Parkview 1—Kenosha St. Joseph, the Division 3 state champion two of the last three years, rode Dominick Tirrabasi’s three-hit pitching to a regional semifinal win over the visiting Vikings (9-11).

The Lancers made the most of eight hits off Joe Cash and got all the runs they needed in a two-run second inning that made it 2-0 in a cold night game.

St. Joseph plays at top-seeded Shoreland Lutheran in today’s regional finals. The winner advances to the Horicon Sectional.
