Whitewater High’s baseball team walked on the wild side in a no-hit victory Friday.

Zach Haskins and Ben Heller pitched the no-hitter for Whitewater, but six walks and four hit batsmen kept the Whippets on the cutting edge before they escaped with 4-3 win over St. John’s Northwestern Military Academy in a WIAA Division 2 regional opener.

Haskins worked the first 3 1/3 innings and allowed 10 base-runners, and Heller followed with six strikeouts and no walks in pitching the last 3 2/3 innings.

Whitewater overcame a 1-0 deficit with all its runs in the third inning. The Whippets tied it on Dean Backman’s RBI single with one out. They took the lead with two outs on Matt Willey’s two-run single, then got an RBI single from Rory Kolo.

The Whippets will attempt to avenge two regular-season losses when they take on the Southern Lakes champions in Tuesday’s regional semifinals at East Troy. That is part of the Chilton Sectional.

Momentum shifted back and forth Friday. Darrell Dykstra’s solo homer gave Parkview a lead lead in the first, and the score stayed the way until a wild fifth inning.

Gunnar Neale’s three-run homer put the Angels ahead, 6-1, in the top of the fifth.

Parkview rallied to tie it with five runs in the bottom of the inning. Scott DeVault’s two-run double capped the inning and tied the game.

St. Catherine’s added three runs in the sixth to take back the lead.

In the bottom of the seventh, a two-run double by reserve catcher Ethan Andre got the Vikings to within a run. DeVault’s single tied the game, and with runners on first and third with one out, the pitcher threw over to first without the first baseman covering. That alowed the winning run to score.
