East beats Parker in Big Eight baseball finale

MADISON — Janesville Parker High School ended its Big Eight baseball season with a 5-1 loss to Madison East here Thursday.

The Vikings finished 6-10 in the conference and take a 6-13 overall mark into a WIAA Division 1 regional opener Tuesday at Fort Atkinson.

Parker matched East with six hits, but the Purgolders were more efficient.

“They got their hits in bunches, and we didn’t,” Parker coach Brian Martin said.

The Purgolders scored three runs on four hits in the third inning to take a 4-1 lead. Parker scored its lone run in the third inning.

Parker had leadoff hits in the second and fourth innings, but East turned a double play each time to cool any threat.

“We get the runners on base, but didn’t have a chance because we hit into double plays,” Martin said.

Parker starting pitcher Garrett Morris allowed all of East’s runs. He notched six strikeouts and issued two walks in working a complete game.
