Badger upsets Parker in regional soccer
Lake Geneva Badger, the No. 6 seed, defeated the third-seeded Vikings, 3-2, here Thursday in a WIAA Division 1 regional opener.
The Badgers (8-11) got three unassisted goals from Maddie Clark to upset the Vikings and end their season at 15-7,
It was disappointing for Beisser, who will resign as Parker coach to take over as principal at St. Dennis, a kindergarten-grade 12 school in Madison.
“This is a terrible way to end the season,” said Beisser, who spent six years as the girls head coach. “My hat goes off to Badger, though. They had everybody lay it on the line. We made a lot of mental errors and a couple of girls didn’t play their game.
“When it comes to regionals, everybody is 0-0, and you’ve got to come to play. Some of our girls were looking ahead to Saturday.”
Beisser said he did not want to leave the program, but the new job offer was too good to pass up.
“The school is only a block from my house, and we have a baby on the way in September,” Beisser said. “This is one of the hardest things to do. It’s the end of all of our work.
“We had a good run this year,” Beisser said. “We beat Craig, we were the only team to score on Middleton, and we almost beat West. They will have to do a little rebuilding next year with 10 seniors gone, but hopefully they will continue to get support from the school.”

? Delavan-Darien 5, Beloit 0—A goal by a freshman opened up the “Flood” gates for Delavan-Darien High in a Division 1 regional semifinal game at Delavan.
Kristi Spotz scored the first goal 24 minutes into the game, and Courtney Flood added two more goals as the Comets advanced to Saturday’s regional final against Lake Geneva Badger at 3 p.m. at Milton.
“Beloit has a very good goalie, and we had a lot of opportunities to score early,” Delavan-Darien coach Bruce Mowery said. “We didn’t make good decisions when we had shots. I got kind of frustrated, so I put in a freshman, and she scored our first goal over the top.”
