A switch gear failure at the Milton Ethanol Plant is being blamed for a big power outage Wednesday morning, leaving a large section of the city without electricity.

Alliant Energy spokesman Steve Schultz says close to 850 customers on the communities south side lost power around 10:00 in the morning.

Schultz says the ethanol plant was taken off line, and electricity restored to customers in about half-an-hour.
