Edgerton starts fast in WIAA regional softball

Edgerton High’s third-seeded Rock Valley champions wasted no time stepping into high gear in the postseason.


The Crimson Tide (15-3) scored in every inning except the first to bury the sixth-seeded Delavan-Darien, 10-0, in a six-inning WIAA Division 2 regional quarterfinal game Thursday.


Edgerton pitcher Caitlin Johnson struck out 10 and walked just one.


Five Crimson Tide hitters produced two or more hits. They included D.J. Nicoll, who had two doubles, Anne Tronnes, Elle McCall, Tessa Disch and Meggie Schmidt.


The Tide got two RBIs apiece from Tronnes, McCall, Johnson and Kelsey LaVelle.


Edgerton plays at Brodhead in a regional semifinal game Tuesday. That is part of the Whitewater Sectional.

n Brodhead 10, Evansville 0—The host Cardinals made quick work of their Rock Valley rival in a Division 2 regional quarterfinal game.


Erica Stampfli allowed only one hit in the complete-game victory. Stampfli struck out seven and was aided by 15 Brodhead hits.


Brodhead hosts Rock Valley champion Edgerton on Tuesday in a regional semifinal game that pairs into the Whitewater Sectional.

McFarland 1, Big Foot 0—McFarland broke up Cameron Niven’s no-hitter with two singles and double in the bottom of the seventh inning to stun Walworth Big Foot in a Division 2 regional opener.


With two runners on base, the Spartans won it with Ashley Brown’s walk-off double.


Big Foot had runners on first and third in the first and third innings. Senior shortstop Kelsey Morris had two of the Chiefs’ three hits.


Niven struck out nine and walked none, but saw her team’s season end at 13-7.


McFarland (15-6) plays at top-seeded Monroe, the Badger South champion, in Tuesday’s regional semifinals.

Heidi Loppnow’s three-run homer highlighted Lakeside’s 12-hit attack.

The Danielsons went 4-for-5, and Haley Christianson fired a complete-game four-hitter as the Vikings upended Palmyra-Eagle, 5-3.


The Vikings led 3-0 after two innings, but the Panthers cut the lead to one in the fifth.


Parkview plays at second-seeded Belleville in a regional semifinal game Tuesday. That pairs into the Whitewater Sectional.
