Parker wins Big Eight softball finale

— Janesville Parker closed its regular season with a flourish, scoring four ninth-inning runs Thursday for a 6-2 victory over Madison East in Big Eight softball.

Parker High (7-12, 6-10) pounded out six hits in the decisive ninth inning. Kelley Koebler cracked a leadoff double. Emily Lilburn singled Koebler home.

Lindsay Kluge singled and scored on Alex Klawitter’s hit. Amanda Benash drove in Kluge with a single, and Tess Fielder ended the uprsing with a run-scoring single to plate Klawitter.

“We did a nice job getting hits thoughout the lineup,” Parker coach Dyann Riley said.

The Vikings built a 2-0 lead in the first inning on a leadoff double by Koebler, a single by Lilburn, an RBI single by Klawitter and an RBI single by Benash.

The Vikings made two errors in the seventh, but Fielder started a 4-3 double play to end the threat.

“That was huge,” Riley said.

The Vikings will open WIAA Division 1 regional action Tuesday at Dawson Field against Janesville Craig. The Cougars won both regular season meetings.
