— Janesville Craig rebounded from a disappointing nonconference loss Monday with a 3-1 victory over Sun Prairie in Big Eight baseball here Tuesday.

The win lifted Craig High to 7-7 in the conference and 10-8 overall.

“It’s a big win,” Craig coach Victor Herbst said. “It brings our conference record back to .500, and it’s big beating Sun Prairie twice this season.”

All three of Craig’s runs were unearned. The Cougars scored all the runs they would need in the second inning with two outs.

Sun Prairie committed an error, Zach Bayreuther smacked a double, and starting pitcher Trevor Foss and Ben Yaucher each singled to make it 2-0.

Sun Prairie scored in the fifth to make it 2-1. Craig added an insurance run in the sixth with two outs when Bayreuther scored from third on an infield error.

After pitching a shutout in the first Sun Prairie meeting, Foss held the Cardinals to one run on five hits. He notched eight strikeouts and walked three.

“Trevor had a real quality outing,” Herbst said. “He didn’t issue a walk until the sixth.’’

Craig is scheduled hosts Madison East at 5 p.m. Thursday at Riverside Park.
