— A man armed with a pocketknife demanded money from the store clerk Tuesday night at RDP Oil & Gas, 1455 Center Ave., but didn’t get any.

The suspect, who wore a black nylon stocking over his face and entered the store at 9:30 p.m., held the knife toward the clerk but fled when the clerk picked up a pipe from behind the store counter and yelled at him, said the patrol supervisor at the Janesville Police Department.

The suspect is described as having dark skin and of average build.

The store clerk’s 17-year-old son was the only other eyewitness to the attempted robbery, said police, who still are investigating the incident.

Anyone with information should call police at (608) 755-3100.

It's funny ijwetch-nothing said it was a woman-but that's what I thought, also. Or maybe I got that idea from the related posts.

What part of that story says that the store clerk is a woman?

People never cease to amaze me. A couple years ago a guy tried to rob a bar in Kenosha, Wi. I believe he went it unarmed and tried to use a broken beer bottle as a weapon, anyways to make a long story short, the bartender broke this guy's arm. The police found him a couple blocks away hiding under a car. His reason for trying to rob the bar was that he needed money for crack. I am not trying to profile anyone but my first guess would be that there is a good chance this person is a drug addict. This guy needs help with his addiction while he is locked us. (assuming the police will catch him) I am glad the lady and her son didn't get hurt. Smart thinking on her part.
