Parker drops softball heartbreaker
JANESVILLE Janesville Parker High School lost a 1-0 heartbreaker to Beloit Memorial in Big Eight Conference softball here Monday.
Beloit’s Chelsey Hankins scored the winning run after reaching on an error in the second inning. She advanced to second on a passed ball and scored on Nikki Masterson’s single.
Ashley Culver held the Vikings to four hits. Culver notched nine strikeouts and allowed no walks.
“We were chasing the high one,” Parker coach Dyann Riley said. “We had nine strikeouts, and that’s not acceptable.’’
Parker put two runners on base with one out in the sixth inning, but two fly balls erased the Vikings’ only threat.
Parker pitcher Mary Cate Tracey allowed six hits. Tracey was as sharp as Culver, striking out three and walking none.
“She pitched an outstanding game,” Riley said. “She had her drop ball working well.’’
The loss dropped the Vikings to 4-9 in the Big Eight and 5-10 overall.
Parker is scheduled to play at Wilmot this afternoon.
