— Janesville Craig swept Middleton and Madison East to conclude its Big Eight boys dual golf season Monday at Riverside.

Craig High shot a 306 to top the Cardinals (313) and East (342), enabling the Cougars to finish 7-1 in the conference.

The Cougars could share the title if unbeaten Madison Memorial loses its finale against Middleton.

Coach Mike Wesling was pleased with Craig’s strong finish.

“By far, it was our best round of the season,” Wesling said of the 306 score.

Wesling could not pinpoint the reason for the Cougars’ turnaround.

“I don’t know, and I don’t care,” he said. “As long as it is working.’’

Craig’s Charlie Roherty carded a 2-over 74 for medalist honors. Mike Tabbert shot 3-over 75 for the Cougars, followed by Greg Ruef at 78 and Jeff Hesse at 79.

Craig will compete with Janesville Parker, Milton and Beloit Memorial in the 36-hole Tri-City Challenge on Thursday and Friday at Glen Erin.
