Businesses could lose liquor licenses
LAKE GENEVA Hillmoor Golf Course and Applebee’s could lose their liquor licenses because neither business has been operational in the last 90 days, which is a violation of municipal code.
The city council voted Monday to begin the revocation process.
According to Lake Geneva municipal code, any license issued and not used for 90 consecutive days or any license granted and not issued is subject to review and possible revocation.
Hillmoor closed Oct. 27. The owners of the golf course, Wight Realty Group of Schaumburg, Ill., which purchased the 226-acre property in May 2006, face other violations, too, City Clerk Diana Dykstra said.
The owners have failed to designate a registered agent as well as properly identify the corporate officers on their license application, she said, which means they don’t meet the qualifications to hold a license.
Applebee’s hasn’t broken ground yet.
Wisconsin Hospitality Group was granted a license Aug. 22, 2005, for an Applebee’s restaurant to open across from Home Depot, 550 N. Edwards Blvd.
Construction hadn’t started, however, by the time the license came up for renewal.
The city granted the restaurant group a waiver, which required that the restaurant be open within 60 days, but that’s not going to happen.
In both instances, the city council is able to review and possibly revoke the liquor licenses.
If the city council chooses to revoke the licenses, the city must file a complaint that outlines the violations and issue a summons for the licensee to appear before the city council. The licensee can argue why the license should not be revoked before the council votes.
