Janesville Legion outscores Beloit

BELOIT — Janesville’s American Legion baseball team turned on the power here Friday night at the Beloit Sports Complex.

Brodie Meehan hit two of Janesville’s three home runs as coach Ron Pohlman’s team outscored Beloit, 12-8, in a seven-inning slugfest.

With its sixth win in seven games, Janesville improved 8-3 overall and 5-0 in the Lakes Area Legion Conference.

After Beloit grabbed a 1-0 lead in the second, Dylan Grall and Meehan hit back-to-back homers with two outs to give Janesville a 3-1 lead in the third. Zach Bayreuther walked and scored ahead of Grall.

Meehan also had a three-run homer in a four-run fourth inning that gave Janesville a 7-2 lead. B.J. Scharenbroch and Bayreuther each singled to set up Meehan’s second blast.

Beloit bounced back with four runs in its half of the fourth and tied it at 7-7 in the fifth, but Janesville quickly responded with a five-run sixth. Zach Whalen and Ian Larson each had two-run singles to spark the winning rally, which was fueled by three walks.

Janesville’s doubleheader against the Madison Lakers, scheduled for today at Roy Coyle Field, has been canceled.
