More rain could 'aggravate' flooding
JANESVILLE As if it hasn’t been wet enough.
The National Weather Service is predicting an “active weather pattern” beginning Wednesday night and running through Saturday morning.
That “active” weather could include heavy rain, thunderstorms and, for something completely different, strong winds and hail.
Such storms, the weather service noted blandly, have the “potential to aggravate” existing flooding.
The weather service is predicting a 55 percent chance of rain for today, 49 percent on Thursday and 60 percent on Friday.
Depending on how the storm tracks across the Midwest, the most severe storms could occur on Friday.
Water levels along the Rock River continue to drop slowly but are still several feet above flood stage at Newville, Indianford and Afton.
Even with the rain, the weather service is predicting that the water levels will drop to about 12.5 feet at Afton over the next week.
Authorities continue to ask people to stay away from floodwaters, both for health and safety reasons.
