— Contributors have until the end of the month to make double-duty contributions to the building fund of Brodhead Memorial Public Library.

The Brodhead Area Foundation is matching contributions on a dollar-for-dollar basis until July 1.

“We’re asking prospective donors to keep this date in mind, as contributions made before the deadline will provide a double benefit to the library’s building fund,” said Mary Share, building fund treasurer.

The library is in the final planning stages for a new $2.1 million library on a 2.2-acre site on the northeast corner of West 5th Avenue and 25th Street.

About $727,000 has been received or pledged, and the city has committed an additional $1 million for the project, Share said.

The project originally was expected to cost $3.8 million. To meet budget constraints, the library board approved a scaled-down version of the project. The original plan called for a 18,500-square-foot building; the revised design reduces the area to 14,705 square feet and uses less expensive construction materials.

Donations can be made payable to the Brodhead Memorial Public Library, sent to Mary Share, 703 E. 7th Ave., Brodhead, WI 53520; or to the Brodhead Area Foundation and directed to the foundation’s treasurer, Priscilla Parker, W895 Golf Course Road, Brodhead, WI 53520.
