$18,000 comes to the Janesville Police Department's K-9 program through the Community Foundation of Southern Wisconsin.
Police Chief Neil Mahan says K-9 unit squad cars are special because they're used to house an animal. They need climate control equipment and the Janesville squads have a special automatic remote door opening system.
Mahan says the donation relieves taxpayers of the burden of paying for the equipment.
