Area softball players get all-state honors

Being a conference Player of the Year has led to bigger things for three area high school softball standouts.

Madison Memorial junior catcher Lindsey Umberger, previously voted the Big Eight’s top player, is a first-team pick in the Wisconsin Fastpitch Softball Coaches Association all-state selections.

Lake Geneva Badger junior catcher Rachelle Gremo, the Lakeshore’s top player, is a second-team choice. So is Courtney Mielke, Brodhead’s All-Rock Valley junior shortstop.

East Troy senior catcher Amber O’Connell, a two-time Player of the Year in the Southern Lakes, has received all-state honorable mention. She is joined on that list by Middleton senior outfielder Kate Kessenich.

Senior right-hander Renee Schuttler, a uanimous All-Badger South selection who pitched Monroe to second place in the WIAA Division 2 state tournament, is on the all-state second team. Lexi Johnson, a senior who pitched Madison Memorial to the Big Eight championship, joins Umberger on the first team.

Stacey Tuskowski, a junior who pitched unbeaten Stevens Point to a record-tying sixth state championship, is the Division 1 state Player of the Year.
